In the Michigan House of Representatives Sharon Tyler serves on the Agriculture (minority vice-chair), Education, New Economy and Quality of Life, and Senior Health, Security and Retirement committees. Tyler is a lifelong resident of Berrien County where her adult children Cody, Joe and his wife Christin also reside. Her late husband, Taylor “Tim” Tyler was very active in the community, serving on numerous boards that she still works with today.
Tyler has a long record of experience as an economic developer, having obtained more than $177 million in new businesses and created 2,200 jobs during the last 11 years she served in economic development. Her 30 years of experience have earned her the MEDA Medalist Award in 2009 and the State of Michigan Economic Developer of the Year award in 2004. Governor Granholm appointed Tyler to a two-year term on the Michigan Council for Labor and Economic Development in 2009.
Tyler’s previous experience includes serving as the executive director of the Southwestern Michigan Economic Growth Alliance, Inc., executive director at the Berrien County Manufacturers Council, Interim Niles City administrator, Lincoln Charter Township trustee, and as the Berrien County Economic Development Department’s financial services manager. She has also served on the Buchanan City Brownfield Redevelopment Authority, Niles City Brownfield Redevelopment Authority, Lincoln Charter Township Planning Commission, and Four Flags Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.
She is a member of the Buchanan Chamber of Commerce, Dowagiac Chamber of Commerce, Four Flags Area Chamber of Commerce, Harbor Country Chamber of Commerce, Lakeshore Chamber of Commerce, Berrien County Republican Party, Cass County Republican Party, Berrien County League of Women Voters, Berrien County Farm Bureau, Dowagiac Conservation Club, Fernwood Botanical Garden and Nature Preserve, the Niles Elks Lodge, and regularly attends the First Presbyterian Church in Niles. |
